Using the Scout feature in InventoryLab is an efficient way to search for products in the Amazon catalog. Scout allows Amazon sellers to quickly find and analyze items and make purchasing decisions.
1. To get started, click Research > Scout.
2. Enter the ASIN, UPC, ISBN, or product title keywords into the search bar in the center of the screen and click Search.
The search results will appear on the page. The search parameters will show above the results as breadcrumbs.
You can click the breadcrumbs to navigate to previous pages.
The items on the list from a product search show the following information:
- Product Title - Title of the product Amazon provides through the SP-API
- Number of Offers - What Amazon deems are the most competitive offers for this product. The offers are split up into columns to show New (Merchant Fulfilled), Used (Merchant Fulfilled), and FBA (new, used, etc).
- Rank and Category - Current ranking of the item in a specific category
-
ASIN or Parent ASIN -
-
Parent ASIN: A non-buyable ASIN that acts as the umbrella under which multiple variations of a product are grouped. It helps organize and display related products on a single product page, such as different colors, sizes, or styles of the same item.
-
Child ASIN: These are the individual, buyable product variations associated with a Parent ASIN. Each child ASIN represents a specific version of the product (e.g., a red shirt in size medium), and it has its own unique listing details such as price, stock status, and customer reviews.
-
-
Product Alerts - If applicable, the Ideal Buy indicator and/or Amazon Restriction Product Alert will display if turned on in Settings. The Hazmat Product Alert will display if Amazon categorizes an item as dangerous goods, and you are not enrolled in the Amazon Hazmat program.
3. To access the Detail page, click the product line. You can also click on the small arrow to the far right side of that item's line.
If an item in the search results list has a variation, the Select Variation button will be displayed next to it.
Click Select Variations to bring up a list of the existing Child ASINs to choose from. After scrolling through the list and finding the correct variation that matches your item, click Select this Variation next to it.
This will bring you to the product's Detail page and allow you to continue researching the item.
If you cannot find the Child ASIN for your variation, you will need to first create the variation in Seller Central before it can be used in InventoryLab. If you're not familiar with this process, please check out the links below from Seller Central for guidance:
